I can think of a beat for a song anytime, but I rarely ever think of anything GOOD, let alone anything as catchy as the mainstream stuff. You guys have any techniques for coming up with a good hook? Any special location / mood etc. you have when coming up with your next production?

If I hear a hot melody I will replay it and then change it up so its my own

and for the drums, u usually want the drums a lil different on the hook than the verse. i usually make the kicks a idffernt pattern and/or more percussion in the back.

good shit
alot of cats (sometimes including myself) forget that the hook gotta catch the person's ear. changin up the drums and adding different types of perc* in the backround helps.

i mean...the "Touch It" beat...the only change-up in the beat...is the synth that comes in for the hook.

and it's a hit
